The government has suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) AFM Nizam Uddin, after he tested positive for banned substances during a medical examination while attending an official training course.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury by order of the president.
According to the notification, Nizam, who served as Superintendent of Police (TR) at Police Headquarters in Dhaka and was attached to the Office of Range DIG in Rangpur, was released from Dhaka on 8 January to participate in the ongoing DSCSC-2026 course at Mirpur Cantonment.
During the training course, he fell ill on 7 June and was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
On the advice of specialist doctors, medical tests were conducted as part of his check-up, during which his urine sample tested “Positive” for Benzo Diazepines (BZO) and Amphetamine/methamphetamine, constituting a breach of discipline of the DSCSC course.
The order stated that under Rule 3(b) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, his action amounts to “Misconduct”. Consequently, in accordance with Rule 12(1) of the same rules, he has been suspended from government service with effect from 31 August.
During his suspension, SP Nizam will receive a subsistence allowance as per regulations. The notification added that the order, issued in public interest, takes immediate effect.
Copies of the suspension order have been forwarded to senior officials for information and necessary action, including the cabinet secretary, the principal secretary to the prime minister, and the inspector general of police.
