All international flights bound for the Middle East and arriving from the Middle East have been cancelled at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport due to the outbreak of war between Iran and the United States and Israel in the region.
Airport authorities announced at 7:30pm on Saturday that the decision was made as most airfields and Flight Information Regions (FIR) in the Middle East have been closed.
Among the cancelled departure flights are Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-147 (Dhaka-Chattogram-Dubai), which was scheduled to depart Chattogram at 6:35pm; Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-151 (Dhaka-Chattogram-Sharjah), scheduled for 7:30pm; and US-Bangla Airlines BS-333 (Dhaka-Chattogram-Doha), scheduled for 5:25pm.
Arrival flights cancelled include Air Arabia G9-520 (Sharjah-Chattogram), which was to depart Sharjah at 3:20pm; US-Bangla Airlines BS-344 (Dubai-Chattogram), scheduled to arrive at 3:10pm; and Salam Air OV-403 (Muscat-Chattogram), scheduled to arrive at 5:40pm.
However, Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-122 (Muscat-Chattogram-Dhaka) was able to successfully departe from Muscat, Oman at 5pm, bound for Chattogram.
Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil stated that airlines are working to ensure normal operations of domestic flights associated with the cancelled international routes.
