Actor Sadia Islam Mou is set to return to television with a Victory Day special drama, marking another selective but meaningful appearance in her on-screen career.
Titled ‘Doctor Bari’, the Liberation War–themed telefilm will broadcast on Channel i on December 16 at 7”50 pm as part of the channel’s Victory Day programming. Mou is known for choosing occasional projects linked to national observances, and this year’s return places her at the centre of a wartime narrative set in rural Bangladesh.
Directed by Arun Chowdhury, the drama is based on a story by Faridur Reza Sagar, with the screenplay adapted by Raju Alim. The project continues a long-running collaboration, as Chowdhury has been directing Victory Day dramas from Sagar’s stories annually since 2012.
Set against the backdrop of the 1971 Liberation War, Doctor Bari focuses on a single household that becomes quietly involved in the resistance. The story follows Mallika, the daughter of a village doctor, who secretly provides shelter to two freedom fighters. When local collaborators threaten the family and demand the fighters be handed over, the household is thrown into fear and moral conflict, leading to a tense chain of events.
Mou plays Mallika, while Naresh Bhuiyan appears as her father. Ahsan Habib Nasim portrays one of the freedom fighters. Filming took place between December 8 and 10 in Nawabganj, Dhaka, where an old house was selected to evoke the atmosphere of the war period.
Commenting on her role, Mou said she rarely works on Liberation War projects, which made this experience especially meaningful. Director Arun Chowdhury added that the aim was to recreate the spirit of 1971 through an intimate family story rather than large-scale action.
Away from television, Mou is also awaiting the release of her first web film, ‘Gahin Atol’, directed by Aka Reza Galib and based on Kazi Anwar Hossain’s novel ‘Artonad’. In the film, she plays a mother whose life unravels after a shocking crime, with the narrative centred entirely on her character.
