A medical board, consisting of doctors from different departments, has been formed to oversee the treatment of prospective independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Sharif Osman Hadi.
Osman Hadi, a key figure among the July Warriors, remains in critical condition at Evercare Hospital in the capital after he was shot in the head by miscreants on Friday.
The board, headed by Senior Consultant and Head of the Critical Care Medicine Department Professor Dr Md Zafar Iqbal, was formed at 11:30am on Saturday.
Other members of the board include Senior Consultant Professor Dr MA Aziz from the hospital’s Senior Consultant team, Professor Dr Aliuzzaman from the Neurosurgery Department, and Senior Consultant Professor Dr Md Zulfikar Haider from the Thoracic Surgery Department.
Dr Zafar Iqbal, on behalf of the board, told journalists that Osman Hadi’s condition remains stable, and no new surgeries are currently planned. His treatment will continue with medication and supportive care.
On Friday, at around 7:30pm, Osman Hadi was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to Evercare Hospital, following a family decision. The ambulance carrying him arrived at Evercare Hospital in the Basundhara Residential Area at 8:06pm.
Earlier in the day, Osman Hadi was returning from Jummah prayers on a rickshaw in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert area when a motorcyclist, approaching from behind, executed a close-range headshot on the Dhaka-8 candidate. The bullet went through his head, entering from the right side and exiting from the left.
Following the shooting, the assailants fled at high speed. Osman Hadi, in critical condition, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 2:35pm.
