Authorities have identified 179 of the 609 polling centres across four constituencies in Satkhira as “important” and “vulnerable”, with special security measures announced to ensure a peaceful and fair voting process.
As part of the measures, the district administration has decided to install closed-circuit television cameras at all polling centres.
District Election Officer Md Masudur Rahman said all 609 centres were being brought under CCTV surveillance under an initiative of the Election Commission, supervised by the district administration and police.
He said around 75 to 80 per cent of the installation work had already been completed and the remaining work was expected to be finished by next week.
Satkhira Superintendent of Police Md Arefin Jewel said the classification of “important” centres was not based solely on security risks.
He said factors such as distance and the physical condition of the polling buildings were also considered, adding that law enforcement agencies were making exhaustive preparations to ensure a neutral and fair election.
According to the Satkhira District Police Special Branch, voting will be held at 3,410 polling booths, including 3,281 permanent and 129 temporary booths.
Of the 609 polling centres, 430 have been categorised as general centres, while 179 have been marked as vulnerable.
In Satkhira-2 constituency, comprising Sadar and Debhata, 60 of the 180 polling centres have been identified as important, the highest among the four seats.
Satkhira-1 constituency, covering Tala and Kolaroa, has 168 polling centres, of which 50 are marked as important and 118 as general.
In Satkhira-3 constituency, which includes Assasuni and Kaliganj, 40 of the 165 polling centres have been classified as important, while the remaining 125 are general.
Satkhira-4 constituency, Shyamnagar, has the lowest number of vulnerable centres, with 29 of its 96 polling centres marked as important.
Data from the District Election Office show that Satkhira has a total of 1,816,424 voters, including 910,367 men, 906,043 women and 14 Hijra voters.
