Ex-EC’s daughter collects form for women’s reserved seat

Irin Mahbub, daughter of late former Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar, has collected a nomination form for a reserved women’s seat, seeking support from BNP.

She collected the form on Thursday from Assistant Returning Officer Md Monir Hossain at the Election Commission building in Agargaon.

Irin took the nomination for a reserved women’s seat against the Netrokona-5 constituency.

Speaking after collecting the form, Irin Mahbub said “Although she has not been directly active in politics, she has long worked as a lawyer for the BNP, handling various cases.”

She added that her father always encouraged her.

When asked whether she had received any formal response from the BNP, she said “I am not an outsider to the party and will communicate with its policymakers.”

Earlier, on 8 April, the Election Commission announced the schedule for the reserved women’s seat election.

According to the schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers is 21 April. Scrutiny will take place on 22 and 23 April. Appeals will be accepted on 26 April and disposed of on 27 and 28 April.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 29 April, while symbols will be allocated on 30 April. Voting will be held on 12 May.
