The Election Commission (EC) has upheld the cancellation of nomination papers of Jamaat alliance candidate and NCP joint convener Monira Sharmin for reserved women’s seat.

Election Commissioner Md Abdur Rahmanel Mashud confirmed the matter.

The decision came on Monday after her appeal hearing at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The decision stated that she was not eligible to contest the election as she had not completed the mandatory three-year gap after resigning from government service, as required under the Representation of the People Order 1972.

Monira Sharmin challenged the decision through an appeal on Sunday.

According to her affidavit, she joined the state-owned Bangladesh Krishi Bank as an officer on November 11, 2023, and resigned in December 2025.

As per records, the three-year cooling-off period has not yet been completed, with around four months still remaining.
