A 37-year-old woman was detained at Cox’s Bazar Airport on Sunday morning after security personnel seized 9,825 yaba pills from her possession.
The suspect, identified as Jesmin Akter, is the daughter of late Harun Mia, hailing from Narayanhat area of Fatickchhari upazila in Chattogram.
Cox’s Bazar Airport Manager Mohammad Golam Murtuza said the discovery was made during the scanning of hold luggage belonging to a female passenger on the first Novoair flight (VQ-922) bound for Dhaka.
The scan was conducted after the passenger had collected her boarding pass, at which point security staff detected suspicious objects within her bag.
Following a physical search, officials recovered several packets that had been cleverly sewn inside the shockproof foam on both sides of a laptop bag.
A total of 9,825 yaba pills were found inside these packets, leading to the immediate detention of the passengers at the scene.
Airport authorities confirmed that both the seized narcotics and the detained woman have been handed over to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station for necessary legal action.
