Locals alleged that members of a gang known as “Borhan Bahini” opened fire in broad daylight in Chattogram’s Chandgaon BSCIC industrial area, sparking panic, and later threatened a Jubo Dal leader over the phone.
Police said that around noon Saturday, five armed men gathered outside an industrial establishment in the zone. Before entering, they fired two blank shots, forcing employees to seek safety.
Witnesses reported that shortly after the gunfire, a local Jubo Dal leader and prospective Ward‑4 councillor candidate received a phone call with death threats and abusive language.
Residents said “Borhan Bahini” has long been active in the BSCIC area over dominance, extortion, and factory control. They added that the group’s chief, Borhan, has repeatedly shifted political identities to maintain influence.
Multiple sources claimed Borhan’s clout has grown since recent political changes, with allegations of involvement in criminal activities, including several murder cases. His response was not available.
Chandgaon Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Jasim Uddin told Times of Bangladesh police are investigating, initially suspecting extortion demands. He said some names have surfaced but details cannot be disclosed at this stage.
The OC added that no written complaint has yet been filed, but police are probing the matter on their own initiative and working to identify those involved.
Locals said several shooting incidents have occurred in the BSCIC area since last August, severely disrupting the business environment. They demanded immediate arrests and stronger security measures in the zone.
