Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has demanded strict punishment for those involved in the attack, vandalism and looting of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1 of Dhaka.
He made the demand in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, the attack took place around 12am on Thursday night under the banner of ‘Somomona Dokandar Samabay Samity Limited’.
More than 200 masked people carrying local weapons allegedly entered the healthcare facility, tied up two security guards and looted medical equipment, medicines, vaccines, cash and other valuables.
The statement said the attackers later demolished the entire facility using heavy machinery, including one concrete building and three semi-concrete structures.
Shafiqur Rahman said a mysterious signboard was erected at the site after the healthcare centre was demolished during the night. He questioned where the administration and law enforcement agencies were during the incident.
Shafiqur said the incident had affected a healthcare facility, depriving people of access to medical services. He also questioned the continuation of such incidents despite the government’s stated commitment to providing healthcare services at people’s doorsteps.
He urged the authorities to immediately identify those responsible and take strict action against them. He warned that failure to act would encourage further incidents.
