Khulshi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdur Rahim was transferred to the City Special Branch (CTSB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) on Wednesday, hours after Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Shahadat Hossain raised allegations regarding his role.

The transfer was part of an order that also included reshuffles at Akbar Shah and Chawkbazar police stations.

The order, signed on Wednesday afternoon by CMP Commissioner Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, added that the directive would take effect immediately in the public interest. The matter was confirmed by CMP Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration and Finance) Wahidul Huq Chowdhury.

According to the order, Inspector (Investigation) of Chawkbazar Police Station, Md Nazer Hossain, has been appointed as the OC of Akbar Shah Police Station. Md Kamruzzaman, the current OC of Akbar Shah Police Station, has been transferred as the new OC of Khulshi Police Station.

Meanwhile, Khulshi Police Station OC Md Abdur Rahim has been transferred to the CTSB. Rahim had assumed charge at Khulshi Police Station on 27 August and was transferred just one month and 10 days into his tenure.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Shahadat Hossain questioned OC Rahim’s role during a speech, noting that Rahim had served at Bakalia Police Station during the Awami League government and asking how an officer who served at that time was given charge of Khulshi Police Station now.

Shahadat alleged that since Rahim joined Khulshi Police Station, no leaders of the Awami League, Chhatra League, or Jubo League had been arrested. He further claimed that after the brothers of Wakil Hossain alias Boga came to lodge a complaint against the OC, drives were launched against them.

Referring to the recent murder of a teenager named Hridoy in Khulshi, the mayor said police were attempting to implicate Wakil Hossain and his brothers.

He said Hridoy’s killer, Kamrul, was beaten by the OC and his Sub-Inspector (SI) and forced to name Wakil and his brothers, after which a case was filed against them.

Earlier on Tuesday night, police took up positions around Nagar Bhaban. Police said the drive was conducted following information that Wakil Hossain was present at the Chittagong City Corporation office, though he could not be arrested.
