A man was allegedly killed by his elder sister and brother-in-law over a long-standing dispute regarding land and house ownership in Shahjahanpur.
The deceased, Fakhrul Hasan Farhad, 44, was found dead in a room on the roof of his residence early Thursday.
Police arrested his elder sister, Nur Afsana Nipa, and her husband, Abdus Samad Sujon, in connection with the murder.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
Shahjahanpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Mehedi Hasan confirmed the incident.
According to Fakhrul’s younger sister, Nargis Sultana, Nipa owns the first, second and third floors of the building, while Nargis owns the fourth floor.
Fakhrul lived in two tin-shed rooms on the roof with his wife, Sadia Akhter Shompa, a garment worker. The couple had no children.
Nargis said the sisters had allowed Fakhrul to live there due to his financial hardship.
Nipa collected gas and water bills from him and frequently quarrelled with him after he failed to pay the bills since 2017 due to his illness and financial problems.
Since August, she had been pressuring Fakhrul and his wife to leave.
On Wednesday, Shompa returned home from work around 9:30pm and found Fakhrul dead.
CCTV footage later showed Sujon leaving the building wearing a helmet and carrying a sharp weapon. Police arrested him during a raid and recovered the weapon.
SI Mehedi said a murder case had been filed and both Nipa and Sujon were arrested. A detailed investigation is underway.
