Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman has spoken publicly for the first time about her divorce from musician Keith Urban, which was finalised in January after 19 years of marriage.
In an interview with Variety on March 11, Kidman said she is coping well. “I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good,” she explained. “What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that. Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect.”
Kidman remains focused on co-parenting their two daughters, Sunday Rose (17) and Faith Margaret (14). “I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’” she said. “And that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”
The actress is also mother to Isabella Cruise (32) and Connor Cruise (30) from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban in September, shortly after reports that the couple had been living separately since the summer. Their custody arrangement grants Kidman 306 days a year with their daughters, while Urban will have them every other weekend, according to court documents obtained by E! News.
The divorce was settled amicably, with both parties agreeing to forgo formal discovery or interrogations to resolve financial and legal matters.
Reflecting on her marriage, Kidman has previously noted the challenges of real love. “Real love happens not when everything is going well but when things are going badly,” she told People in 2019.
“It’s when human beings come together, if they’re going to, in a far deeper way. You’re then having to work together and the ‘together’ is what it’s about.”
