Six years after its original release, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has reclaimed the title of the world’s highest-grossing film, edging past ‘Avatar’ following the latest rerelease of the Marvel blockbuster, writes The Hollywood Reporter.
The film added $18.8 million worldwide during the second weekend of Disney’s ‘Avengers: Endgame: Encore’, taking its lifetime global total to $2.9255 billion. ‘Avatar’ currently stands at $2.9237 billion.
James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi epic held the record for a decade before ‘Endgame’ surpassed it in 2019. ‘Avatar’ regained the crown after a 2021 rerelease.
The latest ‘Endgame’ revival comes ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which reunites directors Anthony and Joe Russo with Marvel’s superhero universe. The film is scheduled to arrive on 18 December, the same day as ‘Dune: Part Three’.
The strong performance of the rerelease has also provided an early boost for expectations surrounding the upcoming MCU film.
