Anupam Kher reunited with his longtime friend and Hollywood legend Robert De Niro during his visit to New York.
The Taxi Driver actor hosted Kher at his New York home for lunch and also gifted him a cap. Sharing glimpses of their meeting on Instagram, Kher expressed his joy at seeing his longtime friend again.
“How could I come to America and not meet my dearest friend, and world’s FINEST actor, Mr. Robert De Niro?” Kher wrote.
“Meeting this legend is always a joy, and once again, one of the most special highlights of my trip to America and Canada with my play #JaanePehchaaneAnjane,” he added.
Thanking De Niro for hosting him, Kher wrote, “Thank you, dearest Mr. De Niro, for inviting me into your home, for the delicious lunch, and for your love and warmth.”
“Our conversations and your generosity with your time mean so much to me. Every time we meet, the admirer in me is as excited as the friend,” he added.
Kher also expressed his admiration for De Niro as both an actor and a person.
“I have the deepest respect for you, both as an actor and as a person. And I feel truly fortunate to be able to call you my friend,” he wrote.
He also thanked De Niro’s family, adding, “My love and gratitude to you, Tiffany and your entire family. Thank you for another beautiful memory that I will carry home with me.”
Kher ended his note by thanking De Niro for the cap, writing, “Thank you for the cap. Your kind gesture means the world to me.”
Kher and De Niro worked together in the 2012 film Silver Linings Playbook. The two have remained friends since their collaboration.
They reunited at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in 2025, where De Niro received the Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement.
De Niro also attended the New York premiere of Kher’s directorial Tanvi The Great in 2025.
Produced by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Tanvi The Great was screened at the Cannes Film Festival’s market on May 17, 2025.
The film marked Kher’s return to the director’s chair after more than two decades.
