Two people have died and 672 others have been hospitalised with dengue fever across the country in the last 24 hours. With the latest casualties, the total death toll from dengue this year has reached 61.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information in a press release issued on Sunday by its Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
According to DGHS, both patients who died in the last 24 hours were undergoing treatment at hospitals within Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area.
Of the newly hospitalised patients, the highest number of admissions was recorded in Khulna Division, where 140 patients were admitted.
In the capital, a total of 201 patients were hospitalised across the two city corporations. This includes 110 patients admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and 91 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
As for hospitalisations in other regions, 88 patients were admitted in Chittagong, 84 in Barisal, 66 in Dhaka (excluding the city corporations), 57 in Rajshahi, 27 in Mymensingh, 5 in Rangpur, and 4 in Sylhet.
From 1 January to 9 August this year, the country has recorded a total of 19,345 dengue cases.
Out of the total infected, 17,843 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery. Currently, a total of 1,441 dengue patients are hospitalised and undergoing treatment at different public and private hospitals across the country.
