At least five people, including four members of a family, were killed when a private car collided with a bus on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Kalakachua, Burichong upazila, Cumilla, on Thursday evening.
The deceased in the private car were identified as Abdul Mumin, 50, Jharna Begum, 40, Saif, 7, and Labiba, 18, all members of the same family from Chatarpaiya village, Sonaimuri upazila, Noakhali, and driver of the car, Jamal Hossain, 52, of Barishal.
Another family member, 12-year-old Abrar, son of Abdul Mumin, survived and is currently receiving treatment at Mainamati Army General Hospital.

The accident occurred around 6pm in front of the Miami Hotel in Kalakachua when a bus of Star Line Paribahan collided with a private car, killing the car’s driver on the spot.
The critically injured passengers, including a child, were rushed to Cantoment General Hospital, Chandina Upazila Health Complex, and Cumilla Medical College Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, four of them later died, bringing the death toll to five.
Abdul Momin, officer-in-charge of Mainamati Highway Police Station, confirmed the accident and said legal action is underway. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Police said the deceased were relatives of Maulana Faisal Ahmed, central organising secretary of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis.
