Niall Horan has revealed ongoing issues with his knees and hips, raising concerns about potential future medical problems. The former One Direction member, who underwent reconstructive knee surgery in 2014, spoke candidly about his condition during an appearance on The Zach Sang Show.
“My knees are completely shot. The hips are starting to go too,” Horan admitted. He suggested a genetic link to his joint problems, noting similar issues among his family members. “I think I was just genetically doomed from the day I was born,” he said.
Horan highlighted his father’s joint health struggles, adding, “My dad is 66 this year. He has just had a knee replacement and had a hip done 18 months ago. He is getting another hip done now.” He also mentioned other relatives, including an uncle who had both knees replaced, emphasising the hereditary nature of his condition.
Despite these health concerns, Horan remains focused on his music and personal life. He credited his girlfriend, Amelia Woolley, with inspiring songs on his upcoming album ‘Dinner Party’, joking that “she did a lot of crying.” In a separate interview with GQ, he described their relationship as supportive and balanced. “Having someone to rant with and listen to and be listened to is huge. I am glad I found it. She is amazing and has her own life. I love the life that we have,” he said.
Horan also described their laid-back lifestyle, revealing that weekends are often spent at home. “We are big procrastinators. Friday comes and I am excited for the weekend, but by Sunday night, we have done nothing. We spent the whole weekend in the house,” he said.
At 32, Horan’s frank discussion sheds light on both the physical challenges he faces and the personal stability he has found alongside his music career.
