Bangladesh under-20 football team have secured a place in the semi-finals of the SAFF under-20 Championship after Pakistan suffered a 3–0 defeat against India on Thursday.
The red-and-green side had already opened their campaign with a 2–0 victory over Pakistan, putting them on the brink of the semi-finals. The group-stage scenario was clear: a loss for Pakistan against India would ensure Bangladesh’s progression.
The Maldives-hosted tournament sees Bangladesh face India in their final group match on Saturday, 28 March. A win will crown Bangladesh as group champions, while a loss would see them advance as runners-up.
Currently, both Bangladesh and India sit level on three points. However, India holds the edge at the top of the table due to a superior goal difference, having scored one more goal against Pakistan. A draw in the upcoming match will allow India to finish as group leaders.
Both semi-finals are scheduled for Wednesday, 1 April, with the winners set to clash in the final on Friday, 3 April.
