In the Pirojpur-2 (Bhandaria, Kaukhali, and Nesarabad) parliamentary constituency, the independent candidate who was denied nomination by BNP is Mahmud Hossain, former VP of Bhandaria Government College.
On the other hand, the rival candidate in the same constituency is Mahmud Hossain’s own younger brother, Md Mahibul Hossain, acting president of the Bhandaria Upazila branch of the Jatiya Party (JP) and the JP-nominated candidate.
Independent candidate Mahmud Hossain will contest with the “horse” symbol, while JaPa-nominated candidate Mahibul Hossain will contest under the “bicycle”.
Both Mahmud and Mahibiul hail from the distinguished Mia family of Bhandaria, and are first cousins of JaPa Chairman and former minister Anwar Hossain Manju, who stepped down from the 13th National Parliamentary election.
The fact that two brothers are rival candidates in the election is causing intense discussion in the area.
