Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain could be set for an opportunity in England’s Vitality Blast, with Kent captain Sam Billings openly expressing his interest in signing the young spinner for the county’s T20 side.
Rishad and Billings share a close friendship and remain in regular contact. That relationship may now open the door to a potential stint in English domestic cricket, as Billings looks to strengthen Kent’s squad ahead of the next Vitality Blast season.
The 23-year-old has been steadily building his reputation, not only in Bangladesh cricket but also across franchise leagues around the world. Rishad’s rise has not gone unnoticed, and his name has been on Kent’s shortlist before. The county had explored the possibility of signing him for the Vitality Blast last season, but the move failed to materialise at the time.
With Billings now in charge as Kent captain, those familiar with the situation believe the chances of Rishad featuring in the competition have improved significantly.
Speaking in a recent media interview, Billings confirmed that discussions have already taken place and praised the Bangladeshi spinner’s ability.
“I’ve spoken to Rishad,” Billings said. “He was very happy that I came to play in the BPL. Rishad is an outstanding cricketer. I wanted to bring him to the Vitality Blast last time, but it didn’t happen for various reasons. Now that I’m the Kent captain, I hope he can play.”
Rishad Hossain and Billings previously shared the dressing room at Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League. In the current BPL season, Billings is representing Sylhet Titans, while Rishad is in Australia featuring in the Big Bash League. Billings also arrived in Bangladesh after completing a Big Bash stint.
