Three more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours till Friday morning, bringing the total measles-related deaths to 1,012 this year.

The latest figures from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) show that 1,69,822 suspected measles cases have been reported nationwide since 15 March.
Of these, 19,967 were confirmed as measles cases.

The data also show 912 deaths among suspected measles cases and 100 confirmed measles-related deaths during the period.

According to the DGHS health bulletin issued on Friday, 1,077 new suspected cases and 34 confirmed cases were detected between 8am on 10 September and 8am on 11 September.

Dhaka recorded the highest number of new suspected cases during the period, with 443, followed by Chattogram with 236 and Sylhet with 130.

Of the three deaths reported in the latest 24-hour period, one occurred in Dhaka and two in Chattogram.

Since 15March, 1,49,471 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals, while 1,43,864 have been discharged, the DGHS said.

Meanwhile, the national measles-rubella vaccination campaign has surpassed its target.

The campaign had set a target of vaccinating 1,80,15,064 people.

So far, 1,97,63,009 people have received the vaccine, putting overall coverage at 109.7 per cent, according to the DGHS.
