Three children drowned after going under monsoon water accumulated in a field at Dashpara village in Pabna Sadar Upazila on Friday.
The tragic incident occurred around 2pm at Dashpara village in Nabin Bazar area under Chartarapur Union of the upazila. Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam confirmed the deaths.
The deceased were identified as Sumi Khatun, 7, daughter of Shimul Mollick, along with siblings Khalid Hossain, 8, and Afia Khatun, 6, children of Ashraful Islam, all residents of Dashpara village.
All three victims were students at a local kindergarten school.
According to local residents, the children went to take a bath in the monsoon rainwater that had accumulated in a field near their home on Friday afternoon.
During their bath, one child submerged under the water first. In an attempt to rescue the first child, the other two drowned one after another.
Locals managed to rescue the children and rushed them towards Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex, but all three died on the way to the hospital.
Following the tragedy, a shadow of grief descended over the area, and the atmosphere grew heavy with the weeping and lamentation of relatives.
Upon receiving the information, a police team was dispatched to the scene, OC Tarikul Islam said.
