Fresh Anonna, the feminine hygiene brand of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), in collaboration with the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), organised a menstrual hygiene and health awareness programme on Wednesday.
The event, held at BUET’s Old Academic Building, was attended by teachers, students, and public health experts.
Speaking at the event, a representative said unhygienic alternatives cannot substitute for quality sanitary napkins, emphasizing that menstruation is a normal physical process that should never hinder a woman’s education, work, or daily life due to misinformation or lack of access to suitable products.
As part of the initiative, a sanitary napkin vending machine was set up jointly with BUET’s MME department, with Fresh Anonna reaffirming its commitment to expanding such projects across educational institutions and campuses nationwide.
Professor Musarrat Sultana Sumi said misconceptions and hesitation surrounding menstruation frequently lead women to delay seeking correct information or timely medical advice, allowing ordinary health issues to become complicated.
She stressed the importance of hygienic menstrual management and advised seeking prompt medical advice when necessary.
The event featured a panel discussion titled “Engineering for Her: Together Towards a Better Society,” along with an open session in which female students had the opportunity to ask doctors questions regarding menstrual health and related physical concerns.
Among other speakers at the event were Professor AKM Masud, director of the Directorate of Students’ Welfare at BUET; Tazkiatul Islam Mohua; Takian Fakhrul, associate professor in the MME Department; and Nabila Mahzabin Riya, lecturer in the MME Department.
