Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has expanded its transport services and added new technology to make daily commuting easier for students, teachers, and staff.
The university’s Transport Office introduced these improvements while managing a driver shortage and a government ban on purchasing new vehicles.
To make travel more convenient on working days, the office maintains multiple return trips from Jashore city to the campus.
For the Thursday “Market Trip”, extra vehicles have been added, providing separate afternoon and night schedules for trips to town and back to campus.
Transport services on the campus-town route also run at set times on days when classes are suspended but university offices remain open.
New facilities include a route connecting Jhenaidah city to the Veterinary Campus, a “Godhuli Trip” for teachers and officers, and an expanded coverage area for the Market Trip.
For passenger safety and management, a helpline hotline has been set up for transport inquiries, advice, and complaints.
In addition, a Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) has been installed in all university vehicles, and CCTV cameras have been fitted in the garage area.
The Transport Office has also responded to emergencies, providing special transport to quickly convey over 100 students suffering from food poisoning at Birprotik Taramon Bibi Hall to the hospital and bring them back to campus after treatment.
Extra transport was also arranged during admission tests, orientation programmes, Eid-ul-Adha travel from campus to Jashore Railway Station, and post-Iftar student movement during Ramadan.
Despite driver shortages and vehicle purchase restrictions, the office plans to launch new routes, start a full shuttle service, run Market Trips on Fridays and holidays, support student industry visits, and operate two ambulances 24 hours a day.
Marking the end of his second year in office, JUST Director (Transport) Shimul Islam said the office worked tirelessly to ensure hassle-free commuting for newly appointed teachers, officers, and residents of two newly opened halls.
He noted that efforts were made to improve service quality and bring discipline to transport management despite limitations. Shimul expressed his sincere gratitude to Transport Office staff, members of the Transport Management Committee, relevant department heads, and the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, and treasurer, while also thanking stakeholders for their valuable suggestions.
