Three killed in separate road accidents in Ctg

Three people, including a Navy personnel and a gold trader, were killed in separate road accidents in Chattogram between Thursday night and Friday afternoon.

The incidents occurred in Patiya and Lohagara Upazila.

The first accident took place around midnight on Thursday at Ziri Madrasa Gate on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Arkan Road in Patiya. Mohammad Ali, 35, a gold trader from Kaigram area of Ziri Union, Patiya, died when a bus ran over him while he was riding on a motorcycle.

Locals said Ali ran a gold shop in Hazari Gali, Chattogram city. He was riding the motorcycle to attend a neighbour’s mehendi ceremony when the bus struck him from behind.

In another accident in the same upazila on Friday morning around 8am, Navy personnel Mohammad Sakib, 39, of Isha Khan Cantonment, Chattogram, died after being hit by a passenger bus at Sheyanpara point on the Patiya Bypass.

Another motorcyclist, Ikram Hossain, 29, was injured. Witnesses said the two were riding a motorcycle when the Hanif Enterprise bus hit them from behind. A Rapid Action Battalion team rescued Ikram and took him to Patiya Upazila Health Complex. He was later referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment.

OC Harunur Rashid of Patiya Crossing Highway Police confirmed the death of the Navy member and said the motorcycle was recovered.

Later on Friday around 10am, a third accident occurred in Lohagara upazila town, killing 22-year-old Irfanul Islam Chuhim.

He collided head-on with a cement-laden truck in front of Lohagara Diabetes General Hospital while riding a motorcycle. Chuhim, son of Nurul Islam of Dafadar Para in Lohagara Sadar Union, worked as a showroom manager.

Witness Helal Uddin said the truck was travelling towards Chattogram while Chuhim was coming from Cox’s Bazar. Chuhim was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered severe head and body injuries. He was taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent further accidents.
