An 18-year-old teenager was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Kajla area of Jatrabari, Dhaka, on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Faruk, son of Md Alam, originally from Comilla. He worked as a tiles mason and resided with his family in Noyanagar, Dhaka.
The incident took place around 5:45pm near the alley of Noyanagar Al-Fala Mosque in the area. Eyewitnesses, including Mohammad Sajib and several local teenagers, said a group of 10 to 15 youths stabbed Faruk indiscriminately with knives before fleeing the scene, leaving him critically injured.
Faruk was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at 6:45pm.
Witnesses told police that the attackers may be from the same neighbourhood but were unable to identify anyone or explain the motive behind the attack.
Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the death and said the body had been sent to the morgue for autopsy. The incident has been reported to Jatrabari Police Station for investigation.
