The launch of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system has been deferred to January 1, 2026, from December 16, according to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The decision allows handset traders additional time until the end of the year to submit information on unsold imported mobile phones.
Earlier, traders were given time until December 15 to submit International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers and related details of unsold or stored handsets imported before the introduction of the NEIR system.
However, the authorities observed that a significant number of mobile phone businesses had failed to submit the required information to the commission within the stipulated timeframe.
In view of this, the BTRC decided to defer the NEIR launch and extend the deadline for data submission to December 31 to facilitate the inclusion of unsold or stored handsets in mobile networks.
All concerned mobile phone traders have been requested to submit the IMEI numbers and relevant information in the prescribed Microsoft Excel format by December 31, the press release said.
