The government on Wednesday approved separate proposals to procure 10,000 metric tonnes of lentil and 155,000 metric tonnes of MOP and DAP fertiliser to meet the country’s growing demand.
The approvals came at the 46th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP).
Under the first proposal, the committee recommended the purchase of 10,000 metric tonnes of lentil in 50-kg sacks through the Open Tender Method (OTM) under the Ministry of Commerce. Joytun Auto Rice & Dal Mills Ltd of Phultala, Khulna, was recommended as supplier at a total cost of around Tk76.89 crore, including VAT and taxes. The price of lentil was fixed at Tk76.89 per kg.
The committee also recommended the import of four lots of fertiliser under government-to-government (G2G) arrangements.
Under the second item, 40,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser will be imported from the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) under an agreement signed between CCC and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). The procurement cost for the third lot has been set at around Tk189.67 crore, with the price fixed at $383.80 per metric tonne.
Another 40,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser will be imported from CCC under the fourth lot of the agreement at the same price of $383.80 per metric tonne. The cost of the fourth lot will also be around Tk189.67 crore. The committee recommended both proposals for approval.
Under another state-level agreement between Russia’s JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) and BADC, the government will import 35,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser under the seventh lot. The procurement cost has been fixed at around Tk165.90 crore, with the price set at $383.80 per metric tonne. Prodintorg, Russia, was recommended as supplier.
The committee also approved the import of 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP fertiliser from Saudi Arabia’s MA’ADEN under a state-level agreement with BADC. The fertiliser, under the fourth lot for 2026, will cost around Tk437.37 crore, with the price fixed at $885 per metric tonne. MA’ADEN was recommended as supplier.
All the procurement and import proposals were recommended for approval by the committee.
The five approved proposals involve 10,000 metric tonnes of lentil and 155,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser, with a combined value of about Tk1,059 crore.
