The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Shah Alam Anik, vice-president of Bhasantek Thana Jubo League, from Cantonment area in the capital on Sunday.
Confirming the arrest, DB Chief Shafiqur Rahman said, “We detained him a short while ago and took him into our custody. There are various types of allegations against him. We are interrogating him.”
Anik, son of Abu Sayeed, hails from Narsingdi and was residing in Parbat Senpara, Mirpur.
According to DB sources, primary investigations confirmed allegations of Anik’s involvement in underground activities.
DB investigations also revealed that he maintained close relations with Shahadat, known as a top criminal of Mirpur, and worked as an agent for both Shahadat and Ibrahim.
In the locality, Anik was known as a cadre of Md Mainul Hossain Nikhil, general secretary of central Jubo League, and Ilias Mollah, the local lawmaker for Mirpur.
Allegations exist regarding his involvement in various criminal activities in Mirpur, Bhasantek, Kafrul, Pallabi, and Cantonment areas during the tenure of Awami League government, with multiple cases filed against him on various charges.
