BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is set to visit Tangail on Saturday, marking his first political public gathering in the district after 21 years.
The visit comes as part of a three-day party programme across Rajshahi, Naogaon, and Bogura, with the Tangail rally scheduled on his return journey to Dhaka.
The public meeting will be held at 4pm at an open field in Charjana Bypass area, where Tarique Rahman will deliver the keynote address.
Party sources confirmed it will be his first political speech in Tangail since his return to Bangladesh from nearly 15 years of exile in London.
BNP’s central publicity secretary and Tangail-5 (Sadar) candidate Sultan Salauddin Tuku is overseeing the arrangements. He has personally inspected the venue, supervised stage construction, and directed volunteers.
Hundreds of microphones have been installed and a grand stage erected to ensure no shortcomings. Party leaders and activists held a late-night coordination meeting on Thursday to finalise preparations, further energising local party workers.
Earlier, Tarique Rahman’s Tangail visit had been scheduled for 11 January but was postponed at the request of the Election Commission.
Local BNP sources said that during his last Tangail visit in 2004, Tarique Rahman visited Delduar but did not address a public gathering. This makes Saturday’s rally his first public address in Tangail.
The upcoming visit has sparked widespread excitement among BNP leaders and grassroots workers. Tangail city has already witnessed several celebratory processions. Party workers at all levels are showing renewed energy and enthusiasm ahead of the rally.
BNP Tangail district president Hasanuzzaman Shaheen said Tarique Rahman will formally introduce the party’s candidates for all eight parliamentary constituencies in the district from the rally stage.
Sultan Salauddin Tuku said the rally aims to create the largest political gathering in Tangail’s history. He said the visit of the party chairperson will allow him to present BNP’s election pledges to the public and inject fresh momentum among party supporters and local residents.
