In the thriving tapestry of contemporary Bangladeshi music, Shuvendu Das Shuvo stands out as one of the quiet forces shaping the country’s evolving soundscape. A gifted guitarist, composer, and arranger, Shuvo’s artistry has been instrumental in defining the soul of Coke Studio Bangla, a platform that has brought Bangla music to global ears with renewed vibrancy and also helped listeners to discover the majestic talent of this magical artist.
In an exclusive interview with TIMES, Shuvo reflected on his musical path and the creative journey that led him to the heart of Coke Studio Bangla, and also shared his latest and future works.
From the tantalizing rhythms of ‘Bulbuli’ of Coke Studio Bangla’s inaugural season to the nostalgic groove of ‘Murir Tin’ at season 2 and the emotional resonance of ‘Darale Duaarey’ from the same season, Shuvo’s musical fingerprints are everywhere on this platform. In Season 3, he presented ‘Long Distance Love’ by Ankan and Afrin, a heartfelt collaboration with Ankan and Pragata Naoha’s lyrics, capturing the ache of separation in an increasingly digital age. His recent work, ‘Café’, once again highlights his fearless approach to fusion, interlacing Bangla melody with Latin jazz textures, trombone, accordion, and Afro-Cuban rhythm.
His first guitar lessons came from his elder brother, popular singer-composer Autumnal Moon, who remains one of his biggest influences. That familial foundation continues to guide his collaborations, including his work with Arnob.
“My first collaboration with him was in 2020 on ‘Jugolbondi Mon’, a duet with Arnab and Sunidhi Nayak,” Shuvo told TIMES. After that, everything just flowed naturally.”
His journey with Coke Studio Bangla began in 2021, a turning point in his career. “It was late 2021 when Arnob da invited me to join as a music producer. Since then, I’ve been part of the platform, working on multiple songs.”
He describes Coke Studio Bangla as a dream project that finally brought Bangladeshi music into the global conversation. “Coke Studio has always been a prestigious platform. For years, audiences here and abroad had hoped to see our Bangla songs represented there. That dream has finally come true,” he says. “Working alongside someone like Arnob da, who has been a mentor and inspiration, is a blessing. It’s amazing to see our work connecting with listeners worldwide.”
Looking ahead, Shuvo is expanding his creative reach with a series of new projects. “I’m working on my solo song, which I plan to release by the end of the year. Several collaborations with other artists are also in progress: a single by Sovvota, will be released this November. I’m also continuing to make music with my band Mosey & Co., alongside Nandita.”
Meanwhile his journey with Arnob also continues, as he played guitar on two songs from Arnob’s latest solo album ‘Bhallage Na’. “Listeners can even spot me playing guitar in the videos of the songs ‘Dushtu Cheler Gaan’ and ‘Okale Brishti’,” Shuvo told TIMES.
