Two people were killed as a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka–Tangail highway at Gharinda in Tangail early Monday.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Saheb Ali, 45, and Abdul Alim, 60, of Kalihati upazila.
Kamrul Hasan, sub-inspector of Elenga Highway Police Station, said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound truck hit the auto on the road around midnight.
Alim, a passenger of the auto-rickshaw died on the spot while critically injured driver Saheb Ali was taken to Tangail General Hospital. He was later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way, SI Kamrul said.
The bodies were kept at Tangail General Hospital morgue and will be handed over to the families after completing legal formalities.
