A woman was killed when a bus hit her motorcycle on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway in Chattogram’s Patiya upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Fazilatunnesa, 30, a resident of Magura.
The accident occurred around 9am on the highway near the Noyahat Badamdal area.
Witnesses said that the motorcycle was heading towards Cox’s Bazar when the bus hit the bike from behind, throwing Fazilatunnesa to the ground. She died on the spot, while her husband and child escaped serious injuries.
Her husband, Ali Muzzaman Sujan, said, “We were travelling from Khulna to Bandarban. My wife was riding the motorcycle. As we reached Noyahat, a fast-moving bus hit us from behind. All three of us were thrown, but we were not seriously hurt. Sadly, my wife died.”
Police from Patiya Highway Police Station recovered the body after being informed of the incident.
Md Jashim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patiya Highway Police, said, “The victim was run over by a bus named ‘London Express’. Her husband and child are safe. The body has been kept at Patiya Upazila Health Complex. Legal action will be taken after the investigation.”
