National Film Award-winning actress, playwright and director Naznin Chumki is set to begin shooting for a single-episode drama titled Phul Pakhir Golpo in Kaliakair, near Dhaka.
The screenplay and dialogues have been written by Sarker Raunak Ripon and Saiful Shamim, while Sarker Raunak Ripon is also handling the story and direction. Hasnat Ripon and Kazi Kaniz will play two other characters in the drama.
Chumki will portray a mother in Phul Pakhir Golpo. She is also currently appearing regularly in several television serials, including Rupnagar, directed by Kaiser Ahmed; Ghore Baire, directed by Musafir Rony; Amra Viral, directed by Sajin Ahmed Babu; and Khushbu, directed by Sazzad Suman. According to Chumki, she is playing important characters in each of the serials.
Meanwhile, Chumki will perform in the stage play Darpane Sharotshoshi on 20 September. Written by Manoj Mitra and originally directed by Aly Zaker, the play is now being re-directed by Kamal Ahmed.
Speaking about Phul Pakhir Golpo, Chumki said she particularly liked the title and found the story impressive. She also praised Raunak Ripon’s work and said she has great faith in his direction. She expressed confidence in the performances of Hasnat Ripon and Kazi Kaniz as well.
Chumki also spoke emotionally about taking on the role of Monorama in Darpane Sharotshoshi. The character was previously played on stage by her respected mentor Ishrat Nishat, whom she described as an incomparable and extraordinary performer.
Chumki earned a PhD in Drama and Dramaturgy from Jahangirnagar University in 2024. She completed her research under Professor Dr Harun-or-Rashid Khan, focusing on children’s theatre practices in Bangladesh.
Although she is primarily associated with theatre, Chumki has also earned widespread praise for her performances in several films. She won the National Film Award in 2006 for her performance in Ghani. Her other notable films include Lalon, Ekei Britte, Putul Kotha and Raat Jaga Phool.
