With political debate continuing to dominate public conversation, a new television drama is set to tap directly into that mood. ‘Dhaka 26’, an election-focused production written and directed by Ishteaque Ahmed, blends power struggles, personal ambition and romance against a charged political backdrop.
The drama centres on two aides working under a powerful political leader in the capital. Both men are driven by ambition and locked in an intense rivalry, each determined to outmanoeuvre the other and secure the leader’s trust. Their competition, however, extends beyond politics when a woman becomes the emotional fault line between them, deepening resentments and complicating loyalties.
As political manoeuvring collides with unresolved personal feelings, the conflict escalates. Attempts by their influential mentor to restore balance and discipline fail, setting the stage for a turning point that reshapes both the political and personal trajectories of the characters.
Produced by Esha Rahman, Dhaka 26 is described as a tightly structured drama that reflects the pressures and moral ambiguities of contemporary political life. It is scheduled to air soon on ATV USA.
The cast includes Akash Rahman, Allen Shubhro, Tasnuva Tisha and Sardar Rawnaq Ripon, supported by a large ensemble of nearly 50 performers.
Speaking about his role, Allen Shubhro said, “Political stories continue to fascinate me and the narrative felt particularly timely and engaging.”
Tasnuva Tisha echoed the sentiment, calling the story relevant to the present moment and praising the collaborative experience on set.
Filming took place across several locations in Dhaka in late January, with the production team aiming to ground the drama firmly in the city’s political and social landscape.
