Citizens can now track letters, parcels and digital commerce products online from home as the Postal Department has introduced a Domestic Mail Monitoring System (DMS).
The department has also set up 14 new mail processing centres across the country.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam said the government initiative aims to modernise postal services, strengthen logistics facilities and expand digital platforms so citizens can receive faster and more efficient services.
He said 14 mail processing centres have been built under the project titled “Mail Processing and Logistics Service Centre Construction Project”. These centres include chilling chamber facilities and will play an important role in improving postal service quality.
The project has also provided 1,000 thermal boxes for transporting perishable goods safely.
The minister said the DMS software now allows customers to track letters, parcels and e-commerce products online. He said this has improved both service speed and customer experience.
To further enhance postal capacity and improve the DMS platform, a new development project titled “Sustainable Support for Mail Processing and Logistics Service Centre Construction Project” has been taken.
The government is also continuing reforms and expansion of post offices nationwide.
Under the project “Reconstruction or Renovation of Dilapidated Post Offices of Bangladesh Post Office (Phase II, Revised)”, 270 post offices are being constructed, reconstructed and repaired.
Another project titled “Physical Infrastructure Development and Expansion of Bangladesh Post Office (First Revised)” is building 39 additional post offices.
A roadmap has been prepared to fully digitise all postal operations. Based on the feasibility study project titled “Establishment of Automated Mail Processing Centres for Bangladesh Post Office”, new development plans have also been adopted.
In addition, modernisation and digitalisation of postal services are continuing under the project titled “Smart Expansion and Accessibility of Existing Postal Services at Citizen Level”.
