A Dhaka court has sentenced a man to prison for stealing luggage at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, following his arrest with the help of intelligence agencies. The convicted individual is Md Arman Hossain.

The executive magistrate’s court delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

After reviewing information received and CCTV footage, the magistrate sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment.

Earlier, around midnight on Monday, Aviation Security (AVSEC) members detained Arman, who had disguised himself as a passenger travelling from Dhaka to Jeddah, based on intelligence information.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Avsec members detained Arman on 3 November with the help of intelligence agencies after receiving a complaint from US-Bangla Airlines.

After interrogation and reviewing CCTV footage, it was found that on 3 November he arrived in Dhaka from Riyadh on Saudi Airlines flight SV-806.

After completing immigration, he left the airport with two pieces of luggage belonging to another passenger from belt number 2 assigned to US-Bangla Airlines.

Similarly, on 9 November he again left the airport with another piece of luggage taken from a different belt.
