Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum on Thursday reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to communal harmony, stating that no one can destroy the spirit of unity in Bangladesh.
“No one can destroy communal harmony in Bangladesh. Humanity and service are valued like religion here. It is important that we all uphold this spirit from our respective positions,” she said while visiting a Durga Puja mandap on Kamal Ataturk Avenue in Banani area of the capital.
The adviser noted that Durga Puja, the largest religious festival for the Hindu community, was celebrated across the country with great enthusiasm and festivity.
“Today is Bijoya Dashami. Over the past few days, puja has been celebrated in a joyful and peaceful atmosphere throughout Bangladesh,” she said.
During her visit, puja organisers appealed for a permanent venue in the Gulshan-Banani area to conduct puja celebrations and religious activities more conveniently.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Prof Dr Md Abu Zafar and Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Education Division Prof Dr Nazmul Hossain were also present, said a handout from the Press Information Department (PID).
