For 30 years, Neela Chowdhury has carried the grief of losing her son, Salman Shah. Now, as one of the accused faces arrest, she says she wants more than relief. She wants everyone she believes was involved in her son’s death to be punished.

In an exclusive interview with TIMES of Bangladesh from the United Kingdom, Salman Shah’s mother said she remains firmly convinced that her son was murdered. She believes actor Ashraful Haque Don was closely involved in the killing and wants the other accused arrested as well.

Neela alleged that Don insulted her in various ways after Salman’s death and spread false allegations about her son. She also accused him of threatening her at different times.

“Who protected Don for all these years, and why are these questions not being raised? Why are the other accused still sitting at home? Why are they not being arrested? Don must not get bail under any circumstances,” she said.

Neela said Don continued to attend public events and move around freely even after becoming an accused in the case. For her, the arrest is only one step in a much longer fight for answers and justice.

“Don threatened me at different times. Even after becoming an accused, he took part in various public events and moved around freely. I have carried the grief of losing my son for so many years. I want everyone involved in my son’s murder to be punished,” she said.
