Our party sees no reason to be concerned about the upcoming election in February, it is crucial to resolve key issues before the polls, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said.
“Those who are obstructing the implementation of reforms or causing delays from the government’s side must be held accountable to the nation if these actions affect the election in any way,” Taher warned.
He made the remarks at a press conference held at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday morning upon his return from the United States.
Speaking about the visit, Taher said, “My trip to America was highly successful. There was a massive gathering of expatriate Bangladeshis—almost felt like attending the China Friendship Conference.
“The expatriates discussed politics, the prospects of the future government, and the country’s overall potential. I also realized how significantly the results of the DUCSU and JUCSU elections have influenced the Bangladeshi community in the US.”
Commenting on the current political situation, he said, “The election must be held in February, as a democratic and representative government is essential for the country. However, based on experience, only a free, fair, and neutral election can offer a real solution.”
Taher further stressed, “Reforms must be implemented before the election. The principles agreed upon in the July Charter should now be given a legal framework—otherwise, everything will be called into question.”
Responding to a question about his stay in India, Taher clarified, “I went to the US as a representative of Bangladesh at the UN General Assembly and stayed for medical reasons. The rumors being spread about me are completely baseless.
“AI-generated videos can fabricate anything. People understand these things. Even our respected leaders Khaleda Zia and Dr Muhammad Yunus have been targeted with such dance video fabrications. These are truly disgraceful,” Taher said.
