Police have launched an investigation into a suspected sabotage attempt after an alleged effort to poison the drinking water supply at the Jungle Salimpore police outpost in Sitakunda of Chattogram.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning when on-duty officers noticed unusual foam and a pungent smell in the water used at the outpost. Suspecting contamination, they immediately instructed all personnel not to use the water.
During an inspection of the supply line running from Alinagar School to the police outpost, investigators recovered an empty poison container.
Md Russell, additional superintendent of police (DB) for Chattogram district, said the incident was being treated with the highest priority.
“We are in the process of filing a case over the incident. With the court’s permission, water samples will be sent to a laboratory for testing, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings,” he said.
No police personnel or other individuals were harmed, as the suspected contamination was detected before the water was consumed.
Jungle Salimpore has witnessed previous security incidents, including gunfire and vandalism targeting a temporary Rapid Action Battalion camp.
Local residents believe the alleged attempt to contaminate the water supply may have been intended to create panic among law enforcement personnel and disrupt ongoing administrative operations in the area.
Police have not named any individual or group as suspects, saying a thorough investigation is under way. The authorities said those responsible would be identified and brought to justice.
