Mohammedan Sporting Club made a winning start to their Bangladesh Football League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club at Chandpur District Stadium on Friday.
Defender Mohammed Jahid Hasan Shanta scored the only goal of the match in the 18th minute. Fakirerpool pushed for an equaliser but failed to find a way past the Mohammedan defence. The win gave Mohammedan their first three points of the season.
Fakirerpool remain on three points after beating Dhaka Wanderers Club 2-1 in their opening match.
Bangladesh Police Football Club also enjoyed a successful day as they beat Chattogram City Football Club 3-0 at Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj. Manik Mollah opened the scoring in the 43rd minute before Cameroonian forward Junior Ngong Sam doubled the lead two minutes later.
Ugandan forward Shafiq Kagimu completed the scoring from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Police have now won both of their opening matches and sit on six points. Chattogram City are yet to collect a point after two games.
Meanwhile, Brothers Union and 10 man PWD Sporting Club shared the points following a 1-1 draw at Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj.
Brazilian Jonathan Santana put Brothers ahead in the 26th minute. Cameroonian forward Mbida Yohan brought PWD level in the 60th minute.
PWD were later reduced to 10 men when Anwar received a red card for unsporting behaviour.
PWD now have two points from two matches after drawing 0-0 with Abahani Limited Dhaka in their opening game.
Brothers earned their first point of the season after suffering a 3-0 defeat against City Club in their first match.
