Rail communication from Dhaka to Chattogram on the down line returned to normal after being suspended for two hours following the derailment of a rescue train trolley in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria.

Train movement resumed at around 6:30pm on Friday after the derailed trolley was cleared, while Dhaka Railway Division has formed a three-member investigation committee to probe the incident.

According to Akhaura Railway Station Cabin Master Mainul Haq, four wheels of a trolley on a rescue train derailed near the station yard at around 4:30pm as the train was departing Akhaura Railway Station for Sylhet.

The accident disrupted rail traffic on Dhaka-Chattogram down line and injured a railway worker named Swapan, who is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Railway staff launched recovery operations immediately following the accident. After two hours of efforts, the affected trolley was recovered at around 6:30pm, restoring normal train services on the down line.

Akhaura Railway Assistant Executive Engineer Abu Hanif Pasha said a three-member probe body, headed by Akhaura Railway traffic inspector, has been constituted to ascertain the cause of the derailment.

The committee has been instructed to submit its investigation report within the next three working days.
