A leader of the Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Dighalia upazila of Khulna on Sunday morning.
The deceased, Md Nasimul Gani, also known as Nasim, 45, was a resident of the Farmaishkhana area in the upazila.
The incident took place in front of Nasim’s house between 11:30am and 11:45am, said Khandakar Sanowar Hossain Masum, officer-in-charge of Dighalia Police Station.
According to witnesses, Nasim went outside his home to have tea when two men arrived in a van. They allegedly opened fire at him and fled the scene.
Locals rescued Nasim, who had been shot, and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered three bullets from the scene.
The motive behind the killing and the identities of the assailants could not be immediately confirmed.
Police are working to identify and arrest those involved in the murder.
