A woman and her daughter-in-law were killed after being run over by a bus in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur on Saturday morning.
The incident took place in the Nilkhia Thakurpara area on the Dhaka-Bakshiganj highway.
The deceased have been identified as Ufeja Begum and her daughter-in-law, Farida Begum, both residents of Nilakhia Thakurpara village.
Bakshiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Makbul Hossain confirmed the incident.
According to police, Ufeja and Farida were standing by the roadside in front of their home in the morning.
The incident occurred when a Bakshiganj-bound bus arriving from Khagrachhari ran over them while passing through the Thakurpara area, killing both women on the spot.
Following the crash, police seized the bus and detained the driver’s assistant (helper), though the driver managed to flee the scene.
OC Makbul said legal proceedings were underway.
