Toufique Imrose Khalidi, the editor-in-chief of bdnews24.com and a pivotal figure in Bangladesh’s transition to digital journalism, has died at the age of 59.

He was admitted to St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London on Thursday night after suffering a sudden brain haemorrhage during a private visit to the United Kingdom, where medical staff declared him dead at 2:23pm local time on Friday.

His passing arrived just three weeks before bdnews24.com was set to mark its 20th anniversary on 23 October, an occasion he was actively and enthusiastically planning.

The date for bringing his mortal remains back to Bangladesh has not yet been determined. His family will announce the time and place for his funeral prayers and burial once arrangements have been finalized.

He initially began his professional career in population research in 1987 and worked for Save the Children Fund (UK) prior to entering journalism.
