In a bid to transform Rajshahi into a safer, crime-free, and technology-driven city, the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has handed over 155 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).
The formal handover took place on Sunday afternoon (26 July) during a ceremony held at the conference room of the RMP Commissioner’s office, where RCC Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton officially presented the equipment to Police Commissioner Mohammad Faizul Kabir.
Speaking at the event, RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton emphasised that the City Corporation is working consistently to improve the quality of citizen services and ensure public safety. He stated that their primary goal is to ensure services in accordance with public expectations and the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
“These advanced CCTV cameras have been provided to strengthen the security of city dwellers,” he said, adding that the RCC and RMP would continue to work together to build a peaceful Rajshahi, with future cooperation remaining a priority.
RMP Commissioner Mohammad Faizul Kabir expressed his gratitude, noting that the high-tech cameras would play a critical role in both preventive and detective policing.
He explained that the installation of these cameras at 155 key locations across the city would significantly enhance crime control, traffic monitoring, and management. This initiative is expected to help Rajshahi evolve into a more secure and congestion-free metropolitan area.
The cameras are slated for installation at major roads, intersections, and public gathering spots. This network will allow for 24-hour surveillance, enabling more effective crime prevention, improvement of the law-and-order situation, and swifter responses during emergencies.
The handover ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials. Representing the RCC were Chief Executive Officer Md Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Superintending Engineer Khairul Baker, Acting Superintending Engineer Ahmad Al Moin Parag, Executive Magistrate Najmul Alam, and Executive Engineer (Electricity) ABM Asaduzzaman Sweet.
The RMP delegation included Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Mohammad Khorshed Alam, Deputy Commissioner (Motihar) Mainul Islam, and Special Superintendent of Police (City SB) Md. Abul Kalam Shahid, among other senior officers. The programme was moderated by Deputy Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Gaziur Rahman.
