An Executive Magistrate has arrested the ward-level president of Jamaat-e-Islami in Chuadanga with a large sum of cash in front of a polling centre.
The arrested Jamaat leader has been identified as Sharif, the president of the party’s Ward No 9 unit in the municipality.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred shortly after voting began in the morning at the Rizia Khatun Girls Academy School polling centre on Hospital Road, where BNP supporters detained two Jamaat activists, including a woman.
During this time, Sharif was found in possession of Tk 79,000 in cash.
As the situation became tense, Executive Magistrate Mohammad Alauddin Al Azad arrived at the scene and took Sharif into custody along with the recovered money.
