The 6th convocation of the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) will be held on Saturday at the university’s permanent campus in Kumira, where a total of 7,949 students will be awarded degrees at various levels.
Among the graduating students, 13 will receive the Chancellor’s Award, while 51 will be honoured with the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for outstanding academic performance, according to a press release.
The information was disclosed by IIUC Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Ali Azadi at a press conference held at the Chattogram Press Club on Thursday, organised ahead of the convocation.
Addressing the press conference, the Vice-Chancellor described convocation as the most prestigious academic event of a university and a significant milestone in the lives of graduating students.
He said IIUC awarded degrees to 195 students in its first convocation, 474 in the second, 2,359 in the third, 22,859 in the fourth and 15,326 students in the fifth convocation. To date, the university has produced more than 45,000 graduates.
Professor Azadi said IIUC, established in 1995, has been playing a leading role in the development of Bangladesh’s private higher education sector, with a mission to produce ideal citizens by integrating knowledge with moral and ethical values.
Currently, around 12,000 students are enrolled in 15 departments under six faculties at the university. A significant number of international students from countries including Nepal, Sri Lanka, China and Somalia are also pursuing their studies at IIUC.
He said academic activities at IIUC are conducted across 42 buildings covering approximately 650,000 square feet on its 50-acre campus.
The university has modern computer laboratories, internet facilities, a well-equipped library and research-friendly infrastructure. At present, IIUC has 345 full-time faculty members, including 84 PhD holders.
Highlighting financial support initiatives, the Vice-Chancellor said more than Tk7 crore is distributed annually as scholarships and financial assistance to underprivileged and meritorious students.
To strengthen research activities, the university operates a dedicated ‘Center for Research and Publications’ with an annual budget of over Tk1 crore.
On research and global recognition, he said that according to Scopus and SCImago indexes, IIUC ranked among the leading private universities in 2025. The university has also signed memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with 26 renowned universities worldwide.
The press conference was attended by IIUC Treasurer Professor Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, deans of various faculties, Registrar Colonel (Retd.) Mohammad Kasem, and members of the Convocation-2026 organising committee.
